Sam’s fundraising effort in salute to D-Day

Holbeach gym owner and former marine Sam Fowler will be going the extra mile this week to raise funds for the British Legion.

Sam (31), who opened Royals Gym in August last year after completing six-and-a-half years’ service in the Royal Marines, aims to run for 75 minutes on a treadmill wearing his old assault vest filled with 7.5kg of weights, and to cover 7.5 miles.

The feat will take place today (Thursday, June) in front of the gym at 19–25 Fleet Street, starting at 10am.

A collection box will be available for donations from members of the public.

Last year Sam raised more than £1,000 – split between the Poppy Appeal and the Royal Marines Charity – undertaking a gruelling ten-hour regime including running ten stints of 10km each, 100 deadlifts of 100kg and 100 squats.

Holbeach-born Sam, who served in western Scotland with 43 Commando protecting the UK’s nuclear weapons, has two brothers still serving in the Royal Marines and a third undergoing training.
