A man behind a Spalding music studio has also built his own guitar pedal that he’s shipping around the world.
Sam Loose has owned N/A Studios in Spalding for the last ten years though he’s worked in the music industry for double that time.
Now he’s branched out and designed and built his own guitar distortion pedal.
Sam says he became interested in guitars as a result of the studio.
And that’s led to him creating the pedal.
Sam says the partnership that led to the creation of the pedal is a result of the arts community in and around Spalding.
“To my knowledge it’s the first time this has been done in Spalding; they’re all hand built here and completely to my own design,” he said. “The artist who did all the artwork is a Spalding native, and the pedals are all hand soldered and assembled in my studio in Spalding.
“It demonstrates the wider cultural and creative community in the area that people may not be aware of.
“Growing up in Spalding I was at gigs every single Friday and Saturday in pubs in the town, and since they have died off due to closures, it’s easy to think that music isn’t still alive and well in the area.
“But there are music and musical companies operating in Spalding which I think people easily forget.”
Sam had to learn a new craft to create the pedal.
He said: “I never had any background in electronics, but once I started looking at schematics I noticed similarities and building blocks that I could use to create the sound in my head,” Sam continued.
“I was really aiming for something that captured the essence of the Black Sabbath sound that I listened to so much growing up, but trying to put a bit more of a modern twist on it.
“It has been received very well by guitarists and musicians in general. Units have been flying off to France, Canada, USA and Israel to name a few.”
