Rutland League cricket: Jon’s 40 steers Spalding Town to Newborough 2nd victory

A knock of 40 from opener Jon Garner helped Spalding 1st beat hosts Newborough 2nd by four wickets in Rutland League Division Four East on Sunday.

Having opted to bowl first, Town limited their hosts to 129-9 as Chris Green (2-19) and Tom Decamps (2-28) took two wickets apiece.

Garner and Decamps (27) put on 78 for the first wicket to give Spalding a strong start in their reply, as they reached 130-6 in 42.5 overs.

Elsewhere, Long Sutton suffered an eight-wicket loss at Werrington in Division Three East.

Sutton were bowled out for 76 in 37.4 overs, with Phil Coote (11) and Jake Burton (10) the only players to make double figures.

Burton (1-23) and Steve Milnes (1-5) both bagged wickets in Werrington’s reply, but they made 77-2 inside 20 overs.
