Roll up for all the fun of the fair

The fair is back in Spalding this weekend after its regular opening by special invite.

Roger Tuby and Son’s Fair has been a twice a year fixture in the town for over 50 years.

And it’s back again in Victoria Street car park, opening at 6pm tonight (Thursday, April 30) and running until Monday (May 4).

As is tradition, this afternoon people with special educational needs were allowed on watched on by chair of South Holland District Council, Jan Whitbourn.

Pupils from The Tulip Academy and users of The Chappell Centre were among those that enjoyed a first taste of the rides including the brand new Ibiza Rocks ride.

Roger Tuby, whose father started the fair, said: “It’s the highlight of the calendar for us.

“There’s only Doncaster and here in Spalding where we can invite these people here to enjoy their time on the fair and we’re here thanks to the Spalding Lions who arrange everything.

“They do a fantastic job.

“We’ve been coming to Spalding for so long it feels like a bit of home.”

Elaine Mothers, the chair of the Spalding Lions said: “It’s a highlight of the year for us too. It’s always great to see so many people enjoying themselves.

A gallery of pictures from the opening afternoon will be in next week’s Spalding Voice.
