Roberts has total belief in Pinchbeck ahead of Sunday semi

Pinchbeck United Sunday are full of confidence ahead of their Lincs FA Sunday Cup semi-final in Scunthorpe this weekend.

Tom Roberts’ talented side make the long trip to face a strong Ironstone (Gunness) outfit on Sunday (11am) – and know that history is now just two wins away.

No team from the Spalding and District Sunday Football League has ever won the competition, although Roberts and a few of his squad – including Matt Warfield and Steve Barnes – were part of the Holbeach St Johns Exchange side that lost the 2006 final to Grimsby side Tilted Barrel.

Player/boss Roberts, who misses the game through injury, has total belief in his side ahead of the last four showdown.

“We’ve got great team spirit,” said the popular chief. “Other than two injured players, I have everyone available – it’s amazing.

“We’re leaving at 7.30am, so the guys are showing great commitment to the cause.

“I’m very confident that we’ll get the job done. If we turn up and play like I know we can, I’m sure we’ll make the final.

“We’ve had them watched and I know they are a good side. Obviously we would have preferred a home draw, but we’ve avoided a very strong Fender BCS side. But I’ve always been confident that we can win this competition.”

Jonny Allen (broken leg) and Jonny Clay (hernia) are Pinchbeck’s only absentees, while Jon Fairweather does return after missing the quarter final. The likes of Adam Jackson, Jamie Stevens, Josh Ford, Tommy Treacher and Dan Woods are all in the squad too.
