Planned resurfacing of a Gedney road has been delayed for a second time.
The resurfacing works were then meant to start in October, but now Lincolnshire County Council say there has been a further delay and resurfacing now won’t start until January 19.
That’s when three more weeks of works are due to start.
Karen Cassar, assistant director for highways, said: “After encountering some unexpected underground utility issues while re-building Kingsgate bridge earlier this year, our plans to resurface over a half mile of the B1359 are now back on track.
“Once we’re on site, this won’t be a small task. We’ll be fully excavating half a mile of Kingsgate to its foundations before laying 2,900 tonnes of new road surfacing.”
Coun Neil Carey, county councillor representing Gedney, said: “We all understand that surprises often happen when it comes to roadworks, which is why I’m glad to see the important works rescheduled and ready to start in the new year.
“Combined with the rebuilt bridge, this new road surfacing will most definitely help futureproof one of the area’s busiest local roads.
“Like any major roadworks, these works will cause some disruption for people who regularly use Kingsgate. However, I want to assure everyone affected that we’ll be doing everything we can to keep this to a minimum, including maintaining safe access to all properties throughout the resurfacing works and working in the daytime to keep noise low overnight.”
A diversion will be in place involving A17, Lowgate, Roman Bank, Main Street, Hallgate, and vice versa
