A busy town road is set to open later today after months of work by Anglian Water and Lincolnshire County Council.
Enterprise Way Pinchbeck has been closed at the junction with Edison Court since May after the surface collapsed and initial repairs failed; now the council says it will hold the water company ‘to account’ if any further issues arise over the next three years.
Ashley Behan, Traffic Manager at Lincolnshire County Council said: “I’m pleased to confirm that Enterprise Way will reopen this evening (Thursday).
“These works have gone on for longer than anyone would have wanted and I’d like to apologise for the disruption caused, particularly to local businesses and residents.
“After nearly 10 years of recurring sinkhole issues at this location, it was important that we worked with Anglian Water to fully investigate the root causes rather than simply carry out another short-term repair.
“The works have been complex, involving significant excavation and repairs to both highway drainage and Anglian Water’s water recycling infrastructure, but we are now confident the underlying issues have been addressed.
“This has included a full camera survey of both systems, replacing sections of both systems, re-lining of Anglian Water’s system, and taking time to ensure the reinstatement will last.
“The reinstatement has now been completed by Anglian Water, who will remain responsible for it for the next three years, and we will hold them to account should any further issues arise.
“I’d like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding. We are hopeful that the extensive work undertaken will provide a long-term solution and prevent further problems in the future.”
