Road tax discs no longer required – what it means for you

The requirement to display a road tax disc in vehicles ends on Tuesday.

From October 1, roadside cameras will “capture” the details of untaxed vehicles.
And a buyer of a used car will have to tax it straight away as the seller must reclaim any unused portion as well as immediately notify DVLA of a change of ownership.

The move, said to save the taxpayer £10million a year, will impact on dealers too.

Jordan Crowson, of Pinchbeck VW dealership Crowsons, said: “Currently if we have purchased a used car that has road fund left on it, we are able to use that vehicle on the road before it is prepared for the forecourt.
“From Wednesday, however, motor dealers will not be able to carry this on which will cause inconvenience for those that, for instance, do not operate courtesy or demonstration vehicles.”
