Richardson sees off big field to triumph on Captain’s Day at Spalding Golf Club

Matthew Richardson emerged victorious at Spalding Golf Club’s extremely popular Captain’s Day event on Saturday.

Some 159 players took part in the Surfleet course competition, with intermittent showers and blustery wind making conditions difficult.

That didn’t stop Richardson scoring an impressive 41 Stableford Points to top the leaderboard ahead of Phil Packard (second) and Doug Garfoot (third), who both scored 39 points.

Four other players – Martin Baker, Harry Hunt, Jonny Walker and Stewart Barnett – finished on 38 points.

In the ladies’ competition, Kay Green (22 points) was the winner after nine holes.

Angelina Roper (20 points) and Jill Dewhurst (19 points) completed the top three.

There was also a nearest to the pin competition on the ninth hole, which saw Wayne Wallace pip Paddy Goslyn.

Overall it was a well-organised day with lots of support from family and friends.

Captain John Camm met all of the players on arrival and wished them well.

All of the the money raised on the day will go to this years captain’s charity, which is Sue Ryder.
