A double from player/boss Matt Cawthorn helped Long Sutton Athletic gain revenge on Peterborough Polonia with a 2-0 PFA Challenge Cup triumph on Saturday.
Having lost 6-4 at their ChromaSport PDFL Division One rivals earlier in the season, Sutton learned their lesson well in the London Road clash.
The Magpies went ahead in the first half after the returning Jonny Allen was fouled in the box following a mazy run.
Cawthorn dispatched the penalty to give his side a 1-0 half-time lead.
Although they invited pressure in the second period, Cawthorn sealed the win with his 16th of the season following a cross from sub Lee Punter.
Cawthorn said: “We had a fair idea how Polonia would play after our league game away, when we got destroyed.
“So I set up a little deeper and narrow. We started slowly again but Polonia kept the ball, which suited us as we kept our shape very well.
“We played some tidy football ourselves and got our reward.
“Overall it is a pleasing result and performance.
“With a few key players missing it made us a little thin on the ground, but that just shows the depth in the squad. We were superb all over the park. We need to keep this momentum going.”
