Tydd St Mary booked themselves a semi-final place in the Spalding Inter Services Trophy on Saturday when they beat higher-graded Pinchbeck Utd Reserves 2-1 in a well fought contest.
Pinchbeck came out the brighter and played some good football from the off.
They deservedly took the lead after ten minutes when a good ball over the top of the Saints’ defence was met by Steven Jucikas in full sprint to slam the ball into the net from 18 yards.
This had the desired effect on Tydd and they began to play some good football. On 35 minutes, Stuart Easey unleashed a wicked shot from 20 yards out that the Pinchbeck keeper could only parry into the path of Josh Slator – but his shot was also saved.
However, the ball fell to Tim Lowe who made no mistake from six yards out to level the scores.
The second half was again a well-matched game, with two sides doing their very best to make a breakthrough.
It was The Saints who seized the initiative on 68 minutes, as Stu Easey’s whipped free kick was punched out by the keeper into the path of captain Nick Reims – and he flicked the ball into the net off his right heel to seal the win.
Tydd host Mablethorpe Athletic in the next round of the Lincs Cup on Saturday (1.30pm).
