The chance to try your hand at woodturning will take place at a Weston garden centre this weekend.
Members of the Fenland Woodturners Club will be on-hand all day at Baytree Garden Centre on Saturday, May 18, to show their skills with demonstrations, as well as the chance for people to try and make their own objects.
The club this year celebrates its 25th anniversary in December and meets monthly.
The next meeting is on May 24 at Spalding Common Community Hall.
Club secretary Mick Redden said the club is a great place to both learn skills and enjoy social time.
Mick used to run a DIY shop in Pinchbeck. “I’ve been working with wood all my life,” he said. His hobby, however, developed more recently.
“I’ve been woodturning for about 11 years, “ he said.
“I lost my wife and felt a bit lost so I thought I’d give it a go.
“It’s a nice community,” he added.
Mick said one goal of the group is to “keep the tradition of woodturning going” and it currently has more than 40 members.
He said six times a year, the group welcomes a professional to visit the meetings and give a demonstration.
During the other six club meetings per year “we usually have lathes out”, Mick said.
The lathes will be out this Saturday at Baytree, too.
Mick said: “We’ll be giving some demos as well as selling bits and pieces.
“I’d like to thank Baytree for letting us use the space.”
