Spalding first team had no game but it was still a busy weekend at Centenary Park.
On Friday evening, the Colts played Lincoln in the NLD Colts League and a brilliant performance resulted in a 76-5 win.
They have won their last five league games, scoring 205 points with just 36 points conceded and are becoming the top team in the three counties.
On Saturday, Spalding Seconds, the Nomads, also entertained a Lincoln team and enjoyed a comprehensive victory.
From the kick-off Aron Brundle raced through to open the scoring with a converted try. Good approach play after 16 minutes saw Miguel da Silva go over the line and 10 minutes later he grabbed his second try from the halfway line.
Spalding’s fluent play started to open up Lincoln’s defence and a backs move started by man of the match Callum Fergus was continued by Conall Mason and his offload gave Jack Grundy a simple run in
Five minutes before half-time Mason cut a superb angled run, slicing through Lincoln’s defence and Grundy was on hand to grab his second try.
With the referee about to blow the half-time whistle, Alex Worth made a break and released Aron Pooley to give Spalding a 36-0 interval lead.
Shortly after the restart, with Spalding clearly dominating young Fergus sent a good pass to full back Fergus McKerracher and he sailed over the line. Ten minutes later he bagged his brace of tries with a simple walk in, at which point the referee blew for the end of the game with the Nomads 50-0 to the good because it was becoming rather one-sided.
On the adjacent pitch, Spalding Vets were entertaining Stamford Vets, who a couple of weeks earlier had run out easy winners at their ground.
This time, however, it was a different story with the hosts running out 46-20 winners.
To round off the weekend, on Sunday Spalding u14s had a good win against Oundle, the u13s lost narrowly to a very good team from Holt, while the u15s entertained Market Rasen for a training game. The mini squads completed the line-up with a series of matches against Wisbech.
