Redundancies at town’s last department store

Spalding’s last remaining department store has announced it has made a number of redundancies.

Hills Department Store in Spalding have not said how many people have lost their jobs, but confirmed it was due to the current economic climate.

The Voice understands that Hills Furniture store is not affected.

A spokesman for Hills said: “I can confirm that due the current economic climate the Department Store has made some staff redundancies.”

Hills has been in Spalding for decades and been ran by the family of David Turner for over 60 years.

Earlier this year, Beales Department Store in Spalding closed after the company that oversaw it went into administration.
