Record numbers make Spalding RFC’s popular golf day a success

A record entry of 84 players took part in Spalding Rugby Club’s annual golf day last Thursday.

Played at Spalding Golf Club, the Surfleet course was in superb condition on what was a glorious day for the players – who were taking part in a pairs betterball format competition.

Main sponsors Turnbull were delighted to be supporting the event and entered eight players themselves.

The winners on the day were Harry Chappell and Michael Beeken, with Rod Filby and Nick Illingworth taking the runners-up position.

Also victorious on the day were Elaine and Ray Harrison in the Mixed Pairs category.

STRONG EFFORT: Mixed Pairs winners Elaine and Ray Harrison are pictured with Peter and Eileen Bridge on the first tee at the Surfleet course.

Organiser Peter Jullien said: “This year’s Rugby Golf Day was one of our best and we’re very grateful for all the support we have received, especially from the business community and our main sponsors Turnbull.

“We hope to have raised over £1,500, which will help fund replacing the mini and juniors kit and an equipment container at our new ground, which is leaking and rusting away.”
