Record number visit Holbeach Food Fair

Record crowds enjoyed glorious summer weather for this year’s Holbeach Food Fair.

Around 2,000 people visited the showcase for local producers, suppliers and creators of fantastic foodstuff.

Everything from burgers to vodka toffee was on offer during the course of the fourth annual event.

Organiser Nick Worth said he was delighted with the turn-out.

The festival was held at Carter’s Park on Saturday and proved to be more popular than ever.

“We couldn’t have wished for better weather, especially after the heavy rain a few days before. Importantly, visitors to the food festival were spending their hard-earned money and stallholders, including Churchill Ciders and Ice and Slice Cakes, sold out altogether,” said Mr Worth.

He added that Bakkavor Pizzas made 200 pizzas to order and Silver Fins sold 60 crabs during the day.

“The atmosphere was fantastic and had a genuine family feel to it. All in all, a really enjoyable day. Many thanks to the Holbeach St Marks Community Gym for sponsoring the event,” he said.

The range of stalls included Tesco offering fruit kebabs for children, Limmings garden furniture and the Community Kitchen, based at the Holbeach campus of the University of Lincoln – who provided “mouth-watering strawberry meringues,” said Mr Worth.

DGM Growers, of Holbeach, also took part in the event and ran out of recipe cards.

There was also music during the day, compered by Chris Carter and Jan Whitbourn.

Traders are also being invited to take part in new monthly Saturday markets organised by the Town Action Team.

The first one will be on July 29, with applications for stalls closing on July 15.
