Record-breaking Spalding RFC golf day is a big hit and raises around £1,500 for club coffers

A record entry of 80 attended Spalding Rugby Club’s highly successful golf day at Spalding Golf Club.

Played in glorious weather and with the Surfleet course in fabulous condition, the pairs better ball competition served up some good scores.

Before playing, there was the challenge of the President’s Putting competition – and with five out of 12 successful putts, the winner was past club vice captain Tom Duerden.

The main event was the pairs better ball event and, with an outstanding score of 56 points, Andrew Stone and Paddy Wheeler were the winners, just ahead of Rusty Wright and James Smith with 54 points.

Jon and Lizzie Cooke, with 47 points, were the winners of the Ladies/Mixed pairs section.

With Pecks supporting the day as the main sponsor and with all the holes sponsored and a highly successful raffle, approximately £1,500 was raised for Spalding Rugby Club.

Andrew Stone said: “I played unbelievable golf for the first 12 holes and then my partner Paddy took over.

“It was a brilliant and very well organised day and we thoroughly enjoyed it.”
