Rawlinson pleased with Spalding United’s new recruits ahead of home double-header

Spalding United supremo Chris Rawlinson reckons that his three-man signing spree will keep his side in the mix at the top end of Evo-Stik NPL First Division South.

Rawlinson watched on as Coalville Town loanees Devante Reittie and Bradley Maslen-Jones impressed on debut at Stamford last weekend, before swooping to bring midfielder Conor Marshall in from rivals Corby Town.

Reittie netted on his debut, while Maslen-Jones played a huge role in earning the Tulips a derby point.

Marshall, meanwhile, lists Boston United and King’s Lynn Town among his former clubs, with Rawlinson insisting the central midfielder has “obvious pedigree.”

All three should be involved when Spalding welcome Bedworth Town to the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field on Saturday, followed by the home derby with Lincoln United on Tuesday night (7.45pm).

“Conor has obvious pedigree,” said a pleased Rawlinson. “He’s fairly local to us too, so we’re happy to have him on-board.

“For whatever reason he wasn’t part of Corby’s plans, but we’re delighted to bring him here.

“I think he’ll complement our midfield options really well, while he can also play at right back. If he performs like I know he can, he’ll be a great addition.

“Devante and Bradley are obviously Coalville players and they can recall them at any time, so I’m wary of that.

“We’re thankful that Coalville are allowing us to have them both and that they can continue their development with us.

“The squad needed reinforcing and now I’m happy with it. We may look to add a few work experience lads from Doncaster Rovers, but that’s about it.

“We’ll hope to be in and around the top ten and with these new faces we’ve got a good chance.

“We’ve now got two decent home games against Bedworth –who beat us towards the end of last season – and Lincoln, which is always fun.”

The Tulips must see both of those fixtures out without the injured Jack Fixter, Paul Walker and Ellis Humble.
