Race ace Abbi makes history with back-to-back Super One British Karting Championships

Gosberton speedster Abbi Pulling has made history by becoming the first person to retain the Super One British Karting Championship for Junior TKM.

Teenager Pulling, who is the 2017 British Women Racing Drivers Club (BWRDC) champion, went into the final round at PF International with a small championship lead.

A technical problem in qualifying left the 15-year-old ace with much to do – and starting in an eighth-placed position.

But she drove two very controlled heat races, finishing third and second, but more importantly ahead of her rival – ensuring what seemed an insurmountable championship lead ahead of the finals on Sunday.

The following day, Pulling once again drove in a very measured manner to ensure she didn’t pick up any penalties, finishing second and third to seal the title.

She said: “It’s been such an amazing two years, I never would have thought as an eight-year-old girl that in seven years I would be winning the British Championship back-to-back!

“A huge thank you to Alan Turney at Tal-Ko Racing for helping us have another stellar year and hopefully there are many more to come.”

The BWRDC’s chairman Lorraine Gathercole added: “Once again Abbi has left us awestruck by her talent and her measured approach to what many would consider overwhelming pressure.

“This girl’s capacity to rise to every challenge put before her, is really way beyond her 15 years. The only way is up for Abbi and we are all excited to be sharing her journey with her.”
