Spalding tip saw queues outside this morning as thousands of people attended Lincolnshire tips for the first time in weeks.
Lincolnshire County Council says 2,328 cars attended their sites after having to book slots online in a bid to ensure social distancing and in an attempt to stop people queuing.
However, there were queues outside of Spalding’s West Marsh Road Household Waste Recycling Centres.
Initially, those visiting the tips are only able to bring in garden waste and wood and need to be able to carry the materials to the bins themselves.
Coun Eddy Poll, executive member for waste at Lincolnshire County Council, said: “We’d really like to thank the public. They’ve used our new booking system and we’ve been able to take the waste quickly and easily.
“There were a few teething issues with a queue this morning at Spalding, but that’s now been ironed out and things are running really smoothly. The public have been great – arriving on time and with the correct waste types and their booking references.
“Even where residents had to be turned away because they brought the wrong waste or didn’t have a booking, they did so amicably as they understood why.
“This was the first time we’ve put a booking system in place, and we’re delighted in how it is working out.”
Time slots for this week and next are still available, and more will be released on Tuesday May 26.
