Pyramid B edge tussle to go clear

Two of the Spalding and District Snooker League’s big-hitters clashed on Thursday night – and it was Pyramid B who emerged victorious over rivals Bourne SC A to go six points clear at the top of Division One.

With the duo battling for supremacy in the title race, Pyramid’s 4-2 away victory could yet prove to be one of the season’s key results.
Tony Curry (O14), Spencer Dawkins (O49) and, crucially, Alfonso Palumbo (O49) got the frame wins for the table-toppers.
Dawkins impressed with a 43 break in his win, while Palumbo chipped in with scores of 33 and 31 in his final frame success.
That result allowed Services E to move level with Bourne SC in second after they beat Holbeach C 4-2.
Martin Spencer (O21) shone in that one with an impressive 44 break for the Spalding side, while Paul Boucher (O21) made a 30 break for Holbeach.
Donington C lost ground on the top three, however, after slipping up 4-2 at Holbeach D.
Mat Turner (O21), Ben Wrigglesworth (O21) and Neil Reynolds (O49) were unlucky to finish on the losing side after pocketing breaks of 37, 35 and 29 respectively.
Elsewhere in the top tier, Matt Chapman’s (scr) 28 break helped Pyramid A defeat Holbeach A 5-1, while Stephen Holstead (O28) sank a 24 break in Services F’s 4-2 triumph at Donington A.
In Division Two, Boundary A opened up a four point advantage at the summit after beating Crowland B 5-1.
That’s after Consti G slipped up 4-2 at home to Holbeach B, who are now just five points behind them in fourth position.
Services A also picked up a 4-2 success, with Miki Knight (O21) sinking a 22 break in their victory over struggling Consti B.
The 4-2 theme continued with Pyramid D pipping Gosberton A in a clash that saw Dennis Pearson (R7) sink a cool 20 break.
Down in Division Three, it’s all tied up at the top following Donington B’s 4-2 defeat against third-placed Holbeach E. Phil Burrell (R7) made a fine 25 clearance for Donington despite the scoreline.
That allowed Long Sutton C to haul themselves level at the summit by beating Consti E 5-1.
Fourth-placed Const J also collected five points by beating Gosberton C and are seven points off the top.
