Pulling on brink of title glory

A historic Formula 1 place is getting closer to the grasp of Abbi Pulling.

The Gosberton race ace moved closer to confirming the F1 Academy title in Singapore at the weekend with a pair of wins and a fastest lap on the Marina Bay street circuit.
That left her 95 points clear in the title race with just four races and only 108 points left up for grabs. Championship victory would see her step up a formula with a fully-funded season at the higher level  as she drives towards her ambition of becoming the modern era’s first female F1 driver.
The Alpine Academy-backed Rodin Motorsport driver delivered a masterclass on the streets of Singapore.
Free practice saw her post the only sub two minutes three seconds time before claiming pole position with a scintillating evening effort in qualifying.
A solid launch in race one saw her in charge at the front of the pack, pulling out a 0.7sec gap on the opening lap, extending it to more than a second in the early stages with back-to-back fastest laps.
By half distance, Pulling had a 1.3sec lead and stretched that to more than two seconds in the closing stages as she took the chequered flag.
Pulling made another good start to the second race and defended her lead into turn one, immediately pulling out a one-second lead.
She crossed the line for her seventh victory of the season, winning by more than three seconds and said: “I couldn’t have dreamed for a better weekend.
“Singapore was incredible and it was so special doing it at such a venue that can be so unforgiving physically.
“I am quite proud to say me and the team didn’t put a foot wrong.
“We did struggle a little bit at the start of qualifying but thanks to the team and my engineer Zimba, we made some changes, which really helped and we secured double pole.
“Going into the races, I knew that Singapore was difficult to overtake on so had to get it off the line and control the race from there with good consistency, which we did and managed to take both victories.
“I’m really pleased with the weekend we had, doing the double and sweeping the weekend is amazing. Now I am looking forward to Qatar – where I will be putting all my effort into securing the F1 Academy title.”
Pulling takes to the Qatar track on the weekend of November 29/December 1 for two more races.
