Public asked for welcome design

Councillors are looking to improve the signs welcoming people to Spalding and residents will get the chance to design them.

Councillors Mark Le Sage and David Ashby say they’re looking to fund new signs for their Spalding St Mary’s ward via their councillor budgets.
And it comes as councillors Jan Whitbourn and Gary Taylor announced they were looking to do all the signs into the town.
Coun Whitbourn described it as another ‘challenge’.
“My goal for 2024 is to be as positive as possible in an effort to bring as many visitors to Spalding as we can,” she said. “I agree our welcome to Spalding signage isn’t the strongest so I asked Coun Taylor to see what we could do about it.
“This would be a great opportunity for someone to leave their mark on Spalding for many years to come.”
Coun Taylor added: “It was important that residents were involved in designing the new welcome signs, rather than trying to impose the views of politicians or consultants.
“Rather than trying to push forward our ideas, however, I think it would be much better to get residents to send us their ideas, we could and have some fun and vote on social media to try to select the best design.”
The pair’s plan was to have people send proposed designs to [email protected] before looking at funding streams.
Councillors Le Sage and Ashby though say they’d look to pay for their signs through ward budgets.
“By funding the signs we hoped to encourage other local councillors to do the same,” he said. “We’re all striving to make Spalding a more welcoming place.”
