A Spalding resident offering a lifeline to Winsover Road signal box is unsure Network Rail would be willing to sell.
Christine Meggitt believes the company might only have eyes for demolishing the building in the coming weeks.
Mrs Meggitt wants to see it saved and turned into a visitor attraction, showcasing her impressive collection of more than 100 dolls’ houses and toys.
Network Rail told The Voice recently that anybody with questions or concerns about the signal box’s future should call them. Mrs Meggitt did so but has found herself having to chase for answers.
She said: “I told them I was looking to buy it if they would be letting it go at a reasonable price.
“I didn’t hear anything for a week or so and when I called back they said they weren’t interested in renting it out. I told them again that I actually wanted to buy it.”
Mrs Meggitt, who is a buyer and maker of dolls’ houses, said: “I could have part of it as a workshop and have all my houses on display in another part.”
Network Rail said any such purchase would be complex but suggested the door might still be open for a sale.
A spokesman said: “One significant issue is that the box is on operational land, which is not open to the public.”
Demolition is proposed as part of an upgrade of the level crossing. Road closures to enable the work run from 9pm tomorrow until November 3.
