Production plans for liquid fertiliser

Proposals to produce liquid fertiliser at a Crowland farm have no objections from the Environment Agency or South Holland District Council.

An application has been made for Decoy Farm, Spalding Road, to install plant and machinery to produce ammonium sulphate to be used as liquid fertiliser as part of the existing anaerobic digestion process.

The district council is a consultee to the application made to Lincolnshire County Council and has no objections according to recent documents.

The farm was granted permission in 2020 for the anaerobic digestion plant which has been operating successfully, according to the recent application.

The plant exports to the National Grid by combusting biogas.

It now wants to intercept the liquid when separated and process it to create a liquid fertiliser.

The new plant and machinery will be an ‘extension’ of the anaerobic digestion process to produce the sustainable fertiliser.

The Environment Agency is also a consultee in the process and also has no objections to the scheme.
“The production of ammonium sulphate is largely silent and odourless, and the proposed plant and equipment will be sited within the wider operation of the existing AD plant. There will, therefore, be no impact in terms of noise or odour resulting from the operation of the process and the site owner also owns the nearest residential properties ensuring there is an element of control over the operation of the entire Decoy Farm complex,” says a letter from the planning consultant on behalf of the application.

“Overall there will be a reduction in vehicle movements resulting from the proposal,” the document concludes.

The county’s highways department says the traffic numbers will ‘reduce slightly’ from 2,035 to 1,986.

The final decision rests with the county council which, at the time of going to press, had not recorded one.
