Prizes aplenty at Spalding Hockey Club’s end of season extravaganza

Prizes galore were dished out as Spalding Hockey Club celebrated the end of the season with their annual awards presentation at St Norbert’s school.

The senior teams presented reports on their seasons culminating in the presentation of the player of the season for each side.

They were as follows: Men’s section: 1st team – Jacob Baker; 2nd – George Nairn; 3rd – Ben Scholes; 4th – Alfie Fletcher; 5th – Daniel Plant. Ladies’ section: 1st – Kelly Slater; Ladies’ 2nd – Abbie Hodgett; 3rd – Sophie Smith.

Further awards were given to the players who have shown the most improvement over the season. This year’s winners were Jacob Baker and Mia Dewing.

Also honoured were each section’s top goalscorers, Ben Scholes and Eva Keyes.

Meanwhile, the men’s 3rd side were chosen as the club’s team of the year having finished second in the league and gained promotion to Division 3NW.

Young umpire Ethan Pearson was also named the club’s umpire of the season award having passed his Level 1 umpire course earlier in the season. He has progressed to umpiring a number of the club’s senior games, with great success.

The final award, Club Person of the Season, was this year awarded to the Morris family (Fred, Michael and Charlotte) for their unwavering support and contribution to the club this year and continuously over the years.

  • Spalding HC rounded off their junior season with the presentation of certificates and trophies at Glen Park.

The club had another stellar season and marked it by handing out trophies and certificates.

Key junior award winners: Under-8: Rising Star (girl) – Jessica Pilgrim; (boy) – Jake Sawyer; Most Improved – Jessica Worth.

Under-10: Rising Star (girl) – Pippa Hastings; (boy) – George Goode; Most Improved – Annabel Duce.

Under-12: Rising Star (girl) – Sophie Gleave; (boy) – Haydn Lewis; Most Improved – Emily Wright

Under-14: Rising Star (girl) – Pippa Bembridge; (boy) – Adolpho Chantre; Most Improved – George Morris.
