Prior pips rival Bell to victory in Welland Yacht Club’s pursuit series

Heavy weed in the river again reduced Welland Yacht Club to just one outing on Sunday.

Just four boats took to the water for the third round of the pursuit series – and first away was the Graduate helmed by Neal Tack, with Rebecca Slator as crew, then the Laser Radial of Mark Holland then the two Lasers of Andy Prior and Tom Bell.

It was Bell who led until the upwind return back to the clubhouse, before being hunted down by Prior.

In the end it was Prior who emerged as winner ahead of Bell, then Tack and Slator, with Holland fourth.

The club’s open day, which was due to take place on July 11, has now been rescheduled for Sunday, September 5.
