Food processing company Princes is set to invest in a multi-million pound project at its Long Sutton plant.
Members of South Holland District Council’s planning committee are due to discuss the application at a meeting on Wednesday.
The site is the company’s largest food production facility and employs 498 permanent staff. The company, which took over the property in 2011, is applying to demolish a number of existing buildings to build a new Raw Materials Warehouse and Ingredient Processing Centre.
The development will ‘consolidate’ a number of departments and includes provision for a building 65ft-high at its peak.
Little Sutton Parish Meeting has objected to the proposal on a number of grounds, including an increase in traffic and the height of the new building.
A raft of objections, from the size of the development to potential noise issues, have been raised by members of the public.
While acknowledging the development would be “a considerable change to the visual appearance of the site,” the report recommends the proposal is approved by councillors.
“Officers consider that the proposals support the delivery of sustainable employment in the district and would rationalise and update an existing significant employment site.
A spokesman for the company said the project was ‘multi-million pound’ but could not confirm if any new jobs would be created.
