Popular comeback as ace Allen returns from 15-month injury lay-off

Popular defender Jonny Allen made his long-awaited return to the field on Sunday.

Allen, who hasn’t played since breaking his leg playing for Holbeach United against Cogenhoe United 15 months ago, lined-up for Pinchbeck United Sunday in their 3-2 win over Leisure League at the weekend.

Adam Jackson, Billy Smith and Jon Smith netted for table-topping Pinchbeck, but the result took a back seat on the day.

Allen said: “Hopefully I’ll be able to get back fully fit and start playing again.

“It’s been the longest time I’ve gone without playing a game of football, so it’s been very difficult. I’d like to say thanks to everyone that has supported me.”

Other Spalding Sunday League results: Jubilee 3 Punchbowl Tigers 1; Punchbowl Panthers 1 Sutton Bridge Sun 3; Swineshead Sun 6 Mulberry 1.
