Polish-ed Baltic display dents Borough’s perfect record

Leaders Polishborough finally lost their 100 per cent record in Division One of The Spalding and South Holland Voice six-a-side League as Baltic United earned an impressive draw in the game of the night at Glen Park on Monday.

The first game of the evening at Surfleet saw champions Brennans power back into winning form with a 3-1 win over Wet Dream Team.

The win keeps Brennans and the Dream Team in fifth and ninth respectively – but the champions will be hoping to look back at this win as a kick-starter for their season.
Brennans skipper Josh Faulkner was given the nod for man of the match (MOTM).

Old Boy Coaches then lost 6-3 to You’ve Got No Fans in the highest scoring game in the division.

YGNF made the most of any attacking space they were afforded by the unusually disorganised Coaches side, with MOTM Daniel Thomas in particularly lethal form in front of goal.

The newly re-named Pro Ballers (formally Ultra D) lost their first game in seven matches, going down 4-1 to Notinmymums Forest in something of a surprise result.

Forest took full advantage of the ‘off day’ that the Ballers suffered as they climbed to within three points of the top two. Ashley Coddington was given the nod as MOTM.

The next match saw Pinchbeck United leapfrog Posh Old Boys with a 5-2 thumping.

The result sees Pinchbeck leave the relegation zone for the first time and consigns Posh to the reality of a relegation battle. Jonny Butler was the star man for Pinchbeck.

Then came the big one, as leading duo Polishborough and Baltic squared off. In a captivating game which could have swung either way, it was clear in the early stages of the match why these two teams are first and second respectively as they both put on a passing masterclass.

A deflected shot off the backside of Baltic defender Ivars Lazdins gave Polish a half-time lead, before Edgaras Buzas hit back for Baltic.

Krzysiek Goldyn was named MOTM for Borough, who saw their seven-game winning run halted.

The final match in the top flight saw EPH Allstars drop to rock-bottom on goal difference following a tight 2-1 defeat to Univeg Team.

The result sees Univeg pick up their first points after a two-game winless streak, with Liam Groves MOTM.

Division Two got under way with Mail Carters and Balotellitubbies playing out an engrossing 1-1 draw.

The balance of power constantly switched in the clash, as both sides played a similar style of football, often cancelling each other out. Wilf Barkum impressed with a MOTM showing.

Tekkerslovakia then went down 2-0 to a hard-working BK’s Athletic in another enthralling match.

It’s a result which keeps BK’s in the title race, but consigns the Tekkers lads to a lower mid-table position. Luke Russon was the star man in this one.

Spoils were also shared as The TBME and Goaldiggers played out a physical and hard-fought 1-1 draw.

Neither side will say the stalemate was an unfair reflection of a game, where both sides had moments of brilliance – and also moments of a calamity.

The TBME enjoyed a slightly more productive second-half and, were it not for a MOTM performance by Goaldiggers keeper George Wallis, they may have found themselves with the win.

In-form Le Saux Solid Crew then carried on their immense run of form with a 3-1 triumph over high-flying Evolution, who fell to the pace and talent of MOTM Harry Ledger and his side.

After a disastrous start to the campaign Le Saux Solid Crew now sit fourth and could well mount a genuine challenge or promotion.

It was business as usual for table-topping Simple FC, who moved four points clear with an 8-0 romp against new-boys Ultra D.

Dom Mason and his lads now having a sizeable cushion over second-placed Evolution and are looking like shoe-in favourites for the title.

Jeff Tatum was given MOTM in a game Ultra D will want to write off immediately.

The final game of the evening saw Sarah’s Boys just squeeze past Dynamo Kiev 2-1.

The defeat is number six in a row for Dynamo, who now hang above the bottom two.

The win a fair reflection of the dominance that Sarah’s Boys enjoyed, although Dynamo did put on a decent defensive display from which they can take positives.

Despite a few chances to break for Kiev the rock-solid defending from Sarah’s Boys, and in particular Cam Walker, left Dynamo frustrated.
