Police searching area north of Spalding as part of missing persons enquiry

Police search teams are this afternoon (Wednesday, November 3) working in an area in and around Vernatt’s Drain near Spalding as part of a missing person enquiry.

Diving teams are among those present close to the A16 and the Wardentree Industrial Estate.

Lincolnshire Police says its in connection with a missing person appeal for Matthew Hunt of Pinchbeck who was first reported missing in April.

He was believed to have been sighted on Knight Street in Pinchbeck on May 6.

Lincolnshire Police renewed the appeal in August.

He is described as 5ft 9ins tall, slim, has short brown hair and a tattoo on one side of his neck.

A spokesman for Spalding Police said: “Our underwater search unit are completing searches of the river bank around Vernatt’s Drain in connection with a missing person enquiry.

“Matthew Hunt went missing from his home in Spalding in April. The search of the river bank forms part of our enquires in relation to finding Matthew.  We do not have any new information at this time. 

“We’d take this opportunity to renew our appeal for help in finding Matthew, aged 48, and ask if anyone has any information that will help us find him, then please get in touch by calling 101. ”
