Police crackdown on A16 drivers

Police stopped more than 20 vehicles on the A16 between Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire.

Teams from both counties patrolled the road and escorted vehicles to Thorney Road South, Crowland, for checks on Tuesday, October 28.
Over six hours, two vehicles were seized for being uninsured and the driver not having a licence. A 35-year-old man was held for immigration offences and 91 untaxed vehicles were identified by DVLA.
HMRC tested for red diesel in 16 vehicles and four waste carriers were issued with advice by staff from the Environment Agency.
Three LGVs were overloaded, including one weighing in at 6,080kg and full of tomatoes. A £200 fixed penalty notice was issued.
An HGV driver was fined £300 and reported for no operators licence as they were not using a tachograph card.
Three immediate bans were issued by DVSA, a car with exposed tyre cords, and HGV for the driver mirror having inadequate view to the rear, side or front and one LGV showing exposed tyre cords, defective stop lamps, insecure seatbelts and under-inflated tyres.
This operation highlights the importance of taking a collaborative approach in tackling rural crime and reinforces the commitment of all partners to safeguarding rural communities.
