Police advice over keysafes as extra resources tackle spate of burglaries

Police say they remain committed to proactive patrols to reduce the risk of further burglaries at the homes of the elderly and vulnerable in South Holland.

Extra resources have been drawn in to increase patrols by up to double in some areas at times since a spate of more than 20 burglaries where intruders have got in after breaking into key safes.

South Holland community policing inspector Gareth Boxall said: “There have been no further offences since last Wednesday (June 7) which is undoubtedly thanks to the hard work of police officers in South Holland both in providing increased patrols and through the rigorous investigation that is under way.”

Homes in Spalding, Pinchbeck, Cowbit, Moulton and Moulton Chapel have been the subject of burglaries or attempted burglaries.
Two people have been arrested in connection with the case and remain under police investigation.

Insp Boxall said: “We are acutely aware these horrible offences really affect people and have a massive impact on people’s lives. We will do everything we can to bring those responsible to justice.”

Anyone thinking of fitting a key safe or wanting to upgrade one should consider those manufactured to ‘Secured by Design’ standard.

The inspector added: “Although no product is totally risk-free, there are two ‘Secured by Design’ safes approved to the highest standard, the Keysafe Supra C500 and the Keysafe Supra P500. The latter can be linked to an alarm.”
