Pupils at a South Holland school have a ‘deep respect’ for differences and champion diversity, says a recent Ofsted report.
Wygate Park Academy has high aspirations for is students and results reflect the ethos.
“Year after year, pupils’ achievements in reading, writing and mathematics reflect those high expectations. Such impressive outcomes are the product of a curriculum that is tailored carefully to meet pupils’ needs,” says the report.
A member of the Voyage Education Partnership, the school has 286 pupils aged from four to 11-years-old.
“Pupils’ exemplary conduct is a tribute to the school’s first-rate character education. Pupils behave impeccably. They are enthusiastic and hard working. Pupils embody the school’s REACH values of resilience, empathy, ambition, challenge and honesty,” the report says.
Inspectors awarded the school ‘Outstanding’ for behaviour and attitudes and personal development. It was ‘good’ for the quality of education, leadership and management and early years provision.
The curriculum is praised for being both ambitious and well-structured with the development of pupils’ communication skills a ‘key feature of its design.’
“Staff employ ‘talk tactics’ expertly to enhance the quality of pupils’ speaking and listening,” the report says.
It is also a system that benefits children with special educational needs and/or disabilities.
“Reading is not just prioritised at Wygate Park, it is treasured,” says the report.
“Pupils understand the wider benefits of reading frequently. They know that it has an impact on how well they speak and write. Pupils recognise how reading can contribute to their well-being,” the inspector noted.
The school was awarded an overall grade of Good at its last inspection. Ofsted no longer gives a one-word status to schools, but would have retained its Good award.
“The school benefits from effective leadership at all levels. It is ably supported by the trust in its drive for excellence. Staff praise the consideration that leaders show to their workload,” the report said.
