Plenty of love in Weston

There was some big love for a new community group’s first event.

Love Weston’s Big Picnic proved a huge success on Sunday with a fantastic turn out at the village park.

The field was filled with activities including face painting, tug-of-war, bouncy castles, rock painting, vehicle displays and more. One of the most popular activities was the ‘Welly Wanging’ competition and Nicky Clarkson proudly took home the trophy of the first Weston welly wanging champion with a 36-metre throw.

Committee chair Hayley Hammond expressed her thanks for all the help.

“We have been overwhelmed with the positive comments about the event and we were pleased to see so many people make the effort to support us,” she said. “We were donated so many raffle and tombola prizes, it was amazing.

“The cakes and savouries were a hit, we expected to have some left over but they sold out by 3pm!

“Thanks must go to our business sponsors who put their hands in their pockets to support us and finally I would like to extend the biggest thanks to our dedicated committee members who have spent the last six weeks tirelessly pulling this together.”
