Plans to make Spalding sparkle

Spalding retailers are doing everything they can to make the town sparkle this Christmas.

For three days at the end of November, there will be loads of things going on in the town in a bid to attract Christmas shoppers.

Friday, November 28, is the date for the switch-on of the town’s Christmas lights display, organised by Tulip Radio and Spalding Chamber of Commerce.

Then on Saturday there will be the regular market, while entertainment will be provided by the Marching Ambassadors and morris dancers.

Sunday sees something new for the town this year – a large Christmas market.

The market, which is being jointly organised by South Holland District Council and some of the regular market traders, will see around 100 stalls selling a range of items including crafts, gifts, seasonal goods and food and drink.

Stalls will line Market Place, Bridge Street and Hall Place, with children’s rides located in Red Lion Street.

Many of the town centre shops will open specially for the event and shops are being encouraged to enter into the spirit of Christmas with a festive jumper weekend.

Throughout Saturday and Sunday Ayscoughfee Hall is holding a Victorian Craft Fayre.

A spokesman for the event said: “We wanted to make Spalding a destination to visit over this weekend.

“It is many years since Spalding has had such a large Christmas market and this will rival Christmas markets in neighbouring towns.

“With the Ayscoughfee event and activity and the market in the town, there is no reason why our residents should think of going anywhere else. Put a date in your diary to visit Spalding!”

There are still some spaces available for outside stalls and anyone wanting to know more should contact Sue Stubley at Occasions Jewellers on 01775 713068.
