It’s plain sailing for Welland hopefuls

ALL ABOARD! More than 50 visitors enjoyed Welland Yacht Club’s open day on Sunday.

Welland Yacht Club’s Open Day attracted more than 50 visitors on Sunday amid glorious conditions for sailing.

Existing members helmed a number of two-man sailing dinghies and took those wanting to sail for a 10 to 15 minute sail up and down the river from their Cradge Bank base.

Some visitors had a go at helming, while others were more content to sit in the front and control the small jib sail. None of the visiting sailors got wet – and several filled in application forms to join the club, with many of these expressing a keen wish to receive formal training from the club’s RYA approved instructors

Welland Yacht Club has organised sailing events every Sunday between 11am and 4pm from April to November – and run a junior club between 9.30am and 11am most Sunday mornings.

The clubhouse boasts newly refurbished men and women’s changing rooms (thanks to an Inspired Facilities Grant from Sport England), kitchen, bar and a secure boat compound for members’ boats.
