Pirate movies on council Local Plan website

A council website has been hosting illegal streams to pirated Hollywood movies.

The South Lincolnshire Local Plan website, co-run by the South Holland District Council and Boston Borough Council joint committee, for months hosted hundreds of links claiming to offer streams to recent Hollywood movies, including The Mummy and It.

South Holland District Council said upkeep of the website was solely down to Boston Borough Council. When the issue was brought to their attention on Friday (August 31), the section of the site carrying the links was shut down.

The site, www.southeastlincslocalplan.org is the portal for documents relating to the South East Lincolnshire Local Plan.

Access via the homepage led to the regular Local Plan site, but links from Google led to a website with an alternative design that carried both Local Plan information and the illegal links.

These streams are commonly fake links to sites that try to breach a computer’s security or install malware.

A Boston Borough Council spokesman was not available to comment at time of press to explain how this happened and how it was fixed.
