Pinchbeck United Sunday made the perfect start in their bid for county glory on Sunday as they crushed heavyweights Seven Seas AFC 9-1.
Winners of the Lincs FA Sunday Cup in three of the past five years, Grimsby-based Seven Seas were billed as the toughest possible test for Tom Roberts’ side in the first round.
That never really looked the case at Knight Street, though, with hat-tricks from Josh Ford and Dan Woods inspiring Pinchbeck to a whopping win.
Ryan Wheeler, Steve Barnes and Aidan Moore also got in on the act to keep Pinchbeck on-course to be the first side from the Spalding and District Sunday League to win the competition.
Player/boss Roberts said: “We probably could have scored more, but they weren’t as bad as 9-1 would suggest.
“I couldn’t really have asked for any more from my side. We spoke about things afterwards – and if we can stick together, I think we have a great chance of going all the way this year.”
Pinchbeck, who will travel to Messingham Juniors in round two on November 2, must win five more games to reach the final.
In the same competition, a red card for Tom Gosling proved costly as Punchbowl Panthers were beaten 2-1 at Dynamo Varsity. David Simpson got their goal.
Punchbowl Tigers are also out after a 6-1 home beating by Green Barrel Athletic.
Spalding Seas End Wanderers, who got a bye to the second round, have been drawn away at Class 6.
Meanwhile in the Spalding and District Sunday League, Billy King and Matt Eaton were in amazing scoring form as Brennans Sports and Sutton Bridge Sunday drew 4-4 at Monkshouse Playing Field.
King bagged a hat-trick for Brennans with Sean Jeynes netting the other, while Eaton got all four for Sutton Bridge.
Glenn Arbon, Matthew Roberts, Chris Ward and Ben Otterwell were among the goals as Murrow Bell thrashed Mulberry 5-0, while Swineshead Institute Sunday saw off Jubilee 5-3.
