Pinchbeck Sunday backed for glory after booking semi spot

Chuffed chief Tom Roberts has backed his Pinchbeck United side to lift a historic Lincs FA Sunday Cup title after seeing them march into the semi-finals.

Goals from Dan Woods (2), Luke Wilson and Josh Ford fired Pinchbeck to a comfortable 4-0 victory over Gainsborough side White Horse at Knight Street on Sunday, booking a last four clash at Scunthorpe-based Ironstone Gunness on March 1 in the process.

Although it hasn’t been confirmed yet, player/boss Roberts is hoping the final will be at Lincoln City’s Sincil Bank – and is adamant that his side will become the first Spalding Sunday League side to lift the county crown.

“We’ve got to go on and win it from here,” enthused Roberts. “You may as well go out in the first round if you’re going to lose in the semi-final.

“I thought we answered a few questions on Sunday. We had nine players out, but were still able to put out a strong side and win pretty comfortably.

“Once they had a player sent off, it was more like a training session if I’m honest.

“I thought Steve Barnes was the best player on the pitch and it was nice to see Dan Woods bang in two goals in a big game.

“We’ve got a long trip in the next round, but we’ll do our research.

“We’ve got to feel confident now. We’d like a final at Lincoln City, it’d be a great day out. But we’ve got to earn it first.”

Pinchbeck Sunday: Drury, Murrell, Stevens, N Jackson, A Jackson, Pinner, Barnes, Cartwright, Wilson, Woods, Ford. Subs: Piper, Wheeler.
