Pies secret to living to 100

Eating a pork pie is the secret to a long life according to centurian Jim Simpson.

The resident at Patchett Lodge Care Home in Holbeach turned 100 on December 20.

And staff put on a fantastic party to celebrate him reaching three figures.

Jim grew up around Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire and as well as spending time working in the pits in that region, also worked as a blacksmith.

He also has a passion for poetry and listening to music.

Eating a Melton Mowbray Pork Pie is his secret to a long life which staff say he enjoys with a glass of whiskey.

Jim said of turning 100: “It feels very nice.”

Patchett Lodge’s Sarah Johnson said: “Jim is a nice guy who is very kind and understanding.

“He has a very good sense of humour and just enjoys life.”
