Permission granted for 136 homes in Donington

A developer has been granted permission to build 136 homes on land off Town Dam Lane in Donington.

The application by Ashwood Homes includes 25 per cent affordable housing and 23 letters of objection were submitted citing reasons including doctors and schools being full, but South Holland District Council’s Planning Committee voted in favour of the development.

However the application includes Section 106 pledges of £248,081 towards an eleventh classroom at Donington Cowley Endowed School and £373,812 towards a new sports hall at Donington Thomas Cowley Secondary School.

Coun Rodney Grocock brought up recent flooding in the area, telling the meeting: “It’s flooded a month before but three or four days ago it was really heavily flooded.

“They don’t know if there’s a pipe problem down that lane.”

But Coun Jack Tyrrell, responded: “There’s flooding everywhere. We’ve had so much rain recently.”

Moving the application, Coun Drury, said: “It’s reduced from the original 150 homes and it’s good there’s much needed 25 per cent affordable housing included in the application.

“We’ve got a site that’s included in the local plan that everybody will be happy about. Again, education and NHS contributions are being spent locally so it seems to be policy compliant.”
