A peaceful new you for the new year

A centre for modern buddhism will be starting a new meditation course in Spalding.

The Drolma Buddhist Meditation Centre in Peterborough is hoping to introduce people in South Holland to the benefits of meditation with the three week course at the South Holland Centre, starting next Thursday (January 15).

The course will be led by ordained Buddhist Nun Gen Nyngpo (pictured) and will start at 7.30pm.

Studies have shown that meditation can have remarkable effects in our lives.

Benefits include:

improved concentration and focus in daily life

less stress, worry and anxiety

reduced irritation, anger and frustration

greater inner peace and happiness

increased confidence and self-esteem

improved mental and physical well being

a positive outlook on life and better relationships

A spokesman said: “The purpose of meditation is to make our mind more calm and peaceful.

“If our mind is peaceful we can free ourselves from worries and anxiety, and so we can begin to experience true happiness.

“By training in meditation we can gradually learn to stay peaceful all the time, even in the most difficult circumstances.”

The Spalding course will consist of three hour-long sessions, one each week.

Although tried and tested Buddhist meditation techniques will be taught, you do not have to be a Buddhist, or follow any religion, to attend.

You do not need any experience of meditation, no special clothing is required and chairs will be provided for your comfort.

More information can be found at www.drolmacentre.org.uk or by phoning the Drolma Centre on 01733 755444. Each session costs £5 (no need to book, just turn up) or you can book for the whole three weeks in advance for a discount.
