PDFL round-up: Tough day for top tier quartet with wins in short supply

It was a day of defeats for South Holland sides in the ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division on Saturday.

Long Sutton Athletic were on the receiving end of the biggest beating, going down 5-1 at ICA Sports.

Brad Murrell bagged for the Magpies, but Sports ran riot in the second half with four of their five goals coming from substitutes.

Also beaten were Sutton Bridge United, who slipped up 3-2 at home against Leverington Sports.

Jack Murley and Joseph Sutton were the Bridge scorers at Memorial Park.

Completing a hat-trick of top flight beatings were Tydd, who went down 3-1 at lowly Langtoft United.

Meanwhile, fellow Premier Division outfit Holbeach United Reserves saw their PFA Senior Cup dreams smashed by a 3-0 loss at Ketton.

The losing trend continued in Division One, as Spalding Town were beaten 2-1 at FC Peterborough.

Ashley Wilson was on the scoresheet, but Town suffered an eighth league loss of the campaign.

The run of South Holland defeats was halted by Crowland Town, who held their hosts Oundle Town to a 1-1 draw.

Juliano Resta grabbed their goal at Station Road.

Whaplode Drove enjoyed a much better day as they walloped Stamford Lions Reserves 4-0 in Division Two.

That victory saw them climb off the foot of the table and into tenth place.

Below them now are Spalding Athletic, who suffered a hefty 6-0 defeat at home against Rippingale and Folkingham.

Elsewhere, Long Sutton Athletic Reserves enjoyed a 3-0 home triumph over Uppingham Town Reserves in Division Three.

That victory cements their place in the top five.

At the other end of the table, lowly Holbeach Bank are just one place off the bottom after a 3-2 home defeat against Leverington Sports Reserves.

Warren Skeels’ brace did look to have them on track for an all-too-rare victory and they led 2-0 at the break.

But two goals in five minutes levelled the scores in the second half, before Alex Albutt’s late winner.

In Division Four, Tydd Reserves suffered a hefty 4-0 drubbing at Hampton and stay in the drop zone.
