PDFL round-up: Six-y Sutton Bridge show seals promotion to Premier Division

Sutton Bridge United clinched promotion to the ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division with a sensational 6-1 win over rivals Warboys Town on Saturday.

Sam Cooper (2), Matt Eaton, Ben Partridge, Kurt Scott and Ben Thompson all bagged for Bridge in front of 55 fans at Memorial Park, as they sealed a place in the PDFL’s top flight for the first time in recent memory.

Warboys had already wrapped up second place, but Sutton Bridge needed three points to be sure of finishing above Whittlesey Athletic Reserves in third, which is good enough for promotion due to champions Moulton Harrox Reserves not being eligible to go up.

In the top flight, Holbeach United Reserves finished their season with a 4-1 victory over ICA Sports on Friday night. A Tom Gosling treble and a Steve Barnes strike helped the Tigers secure ninth place in the Premier Division table.

Down in Division Four, Whaplode Drove finished as South Holland’s highest-placed side after a 3-2 victory at Stanground Sports B.

Harry Grigas (2) and Joe Strickland notched for Drove, who end the season in fourth place.

Tydd St Mary Reserves ended their campaign with a 2-1 home loss against Huntingdon Rovers. Marcus Gilbertson notched for the Saints, who finish 12th.

In Division Five A, Holbeach United A romped to a 7-1 triumph at Glinton and Northborough Reserves.

Dan Bergin (2), Taylor Beveridge, Scott Burrell, Joe Millinson, Luke Want and Jon Clark netted for the Tigers as they ended up in fourth position.
