Calm keeper Wayne Wilding slotted a penalty-shoot out winner to send Moulton Harrox into the final of the PFA Senior Cup at the expense of Whittlesey Athletic on Saturday.
The stopper, who also saved a Jack Carter penalty in the first half, helped Harrox win a nervy shoot-out 4-3 after a 2-2 draw in 90 minutes and booked an ABAX Stadium final against Premier Division rivals Netherton United.
Joe Townsend had earlier put Moulton 1-0 up at Broad Lane, before a Matt Watkin own goal levelled things up at the break.
A second from Townsend, finished after a good cross from Marcus Parry, put Nigel Steadman’s charges back ahead – only for Jack Bates to force a shoot-out for the visitors. Although Jake
Cawthorne missed his spot-kick for Harrox, successful conversions from Townsend, Billy King, Ian Bradbury and, crucially, Wilding booked Harrox’s place in the final.
Moulton followed that win up with a 6-1 PDFL Premier Division success at Peterborough Sports on Tuesday night. Townsend (2), Danny Maddison, Ashley Coddington, Parry and Declan Earth got the goals.
