PDFL round-up: Clitheroe hits hat-trick as Long Sutton smash seven at Oakham

Long Sutton Athletic romped to a big 7-1 success at Oakham United in the ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division on Saturday.

Star striker Jake Clitheroe shone with a hat-trick for the Magpies, while Matt Eaton (2), Callum Davies and Niall Burton also netted.

The win moves Sutton up to eighth, with plenty of games in hand on many of the sides above.

Above them, Moulton Harrox suffered a 1-0 home defeat against title rivals Uppingham Town.

Rob Forster’s strike settled the clash at Broad Lane, leaving defending champions Harrox down in fifth position some four points behind leaders Netherton United.

In Division One, leaders Crowland Town suffered a rare defeat as Stamford Belevedere picked up a 1-0 win at Snowden Field.

Fellow second tier side Spalding Town also slipped to a home defeat in the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup.

Two Luke Gasson goals and a Lewis Dixon strike helped opponents Eye United prevail 3-0 at Knight Street.

There was better news in Division Two, as Crowland Town Reserves went back to the summit with a 3-2 success at Thorpe Wood Rangers.

Jordan Kirchin, Chris Winstanley and Liam Rigg got the goals for the new table-toppers.

There was more success for Long Sutton Athletic Reserves in the Junior Cup as they were held 0-0 at Leverington Sports, but won 4-2 on penalties.

In Division Three, there was a 4-2 defeat for Tydd Reserves at high-flying Farcet United.

Kai Scott-Henson (2) was the Tydd scorer, but Josh Pike (2), Justin Pye and Josh Staggs netted to fire Farcet to glory.

Down in Division Five B, Spalding Town Reserves suffered a 7-2 reverse at Rippingle and Folkingham Reserves.

  • Two of South Holland’s leading PDFL sides clashed at London Road last Wednesday night – and nothing could seperate Moulton Harrox and Long Sutton Athletic as they drew 0-0 under the lights.
