PDFL football: Second half was a Bridge too far for Stanground, Harrox held

Sutton Bridge United were denied a massive ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division win on Saturday – because their opponents refused to play the second half.

Rampant Bridge were 10-0 up against opponents Stanground Sports at half-time, with Matt Eaton (5), Jake Lally (3), Ben English and Sam Cooper all netting at Memorial Park.

Stanground, who started with seven men before two more players joined the fray after five minutes, refused to play the second half – meaning Spalding referee Louisa Thorold had no choice but to abandon the game.

Bridge took to Twitter to say: “Disappointing that our opposition today didn’t want to play the second half as losing 10-0, but we accept it and move forward to next week.”

Elsewhere in the top tier, leaders Moulton Harrox were held to a 2-2 draw by Whittlesey Athletic at Broad Lane.

Billy King and Louis Steadman were on-target for unbeaten Harrox, who are two points clear.

Another Jonny Allen goal couldn’t stop Holbeach United Reserves losing 5-1 at ICA Sports in the Premier Division.

Scott Spearink (2) and Nathan Glover (2) did the damage for ICA.

In Division One, Moulton Harrox Reserves maintained their unbeaten record with a 7-2 win at Uppingham Town.

Martin Sandall (3), Jamie Francis (2) and Declan Earth got the goals for Kev Nottingham’s side.

Down in Division Two, Spalding United Reserves lost 3-2 at Rippingale and Folkingham to drop into the bottom four.

In Division Three, Whaplode Drove suffered a 6-3 home defeat against previously winless Uppingham Town Reserves and drop to fourth place as a result.

There was better news for Long Sutton Athletic in Division Four, as they cruised to a 5-0 victory over Feeder Reserves.

Shane Millar (2), Vinny Mackie, Steve Robinson and sub Scott Pemberton got the goals for the Magpies’ second string.

Tydd St Mary Reserves, however, were walloped 6-1 by hosts Whittlesey B.

In Division Five, Spalding United A went down 2-0 at home to Glinton & Northborough Reserves.
