Goal machine Andrew Tidswell made a scoring return for the Tulips on Saturday as they cruised to a 2-0 triumph at Peterborough Sports.

Last season’s top scorer, who missed the second half of the season through injury, notched with a low drive in the second half of Spalding’s pre-season opener.

Defender Nathan Stainfield completed the scoring against the UCL Division One side with a trademark header.

New signing Jordan Thomas jumped off the bench and was unlucky to see an effort come back off the bar, but it mattered little for the Tulips.

Spalding handed starts to new signings Peter Bore, Kern Miller, Michael Leary and Tom Waumsley, while trialists George Stainfield and Lewis McKue also featured, leaving Rayment happy with the workout.

He said: “We were missing five or six, but it was still a decent exercise for us.

“Personally I was delighted to see ‘Tids’ back among the goals. He loves scoring and has had a really horrible time with injury.

“I know he was in agony at times last year, but it was great to see him looking happy again.

“We gave him 60 minutes and he didn’t seem to have any reaction.”

Spalding continued their pre-season campaign against Boston United on Tuesday night (see page 39) and host King’s Lynn Town on Saturday.

They will also discover their Evo-Stik League fixtures at some stage today (Thursday).

Tulips: Duggan, Bore, Miller, N Stainfield, G Stainfield, McKue, Leary, Webb, Waumsley, Tidswell (Thomas), Jones (Green).
