The organiser of the Spalding Flower Parade says this year’s will be the biggest ever.
It’s taking place on Saturday and Sunday, May 11 and 12 after returning after a ten-year absence last year drawing crowds in excess of around 200,000.
Steve Timewell says there will be 60 floats and hundreds involved, all following this year’s theme of movies.
He and an army of volunteers have already started working on the floats.
“Since the parade started in the 50s, there has never been a parade like it,” Steve said. “This is certainly the biggest parade in Spalding’s history.
“There are over 500 people in the parade, all in costumes based on this year’s theme of movie titles.”
This year, as well as the parade on the Saturday, there will be a night-time illuminated display at the Castle Sports ground and all the floats on display alongside the stalls back again on the Sunday.
“I genuinely want to keep Spalding on the map,” Steve said. “These community events are vital to the economy in the town and of course, preserving the heritage that we were once so proud of.
“The only thing I can’t guarantee is the weather, however I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
“Regardless of the weather it will be an amazing day.
“We already have 28 coaches booked in from as far away as Devon, Cornwall and Newcastle.
“It’s time to show what Spalding can do.”
